The Pizza Dough Recipe

When I started my times in the kitchen finding a versatile pizza dough was one of the first things I wanted to do. Who doesn’t love pizza right. But this dough isn’t just all about the pizza, it can be used to make so many other breads, from garlic bread, dough balls, and a wonderful focaccia (if those recipes are not links yet, don’t worry recipes coming soon)

To make the pizza dough at relatively short notice is pretty easy, the number of times the kids have had their friends come around at just a moments notice all requesting pizza is unreal. Of course always one to feed people I happily get making. The proving time isn’t to bad either. I find if I start with the dough by the time the sauce is made and any toppings we are pretty much good to go.

A Basic Dough Recipe

375g – Bread Flour
1 – Tsp Salt
1 – Tbsp Caster Sugar
7g – Dried Action Yeast
2 Tbs – Olive Oil
110ml – Warm Water
110ml – Warm Milk
  • Add the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl. In a pan mix the water and milk together and gently heat until nice and warm but not boiling.
  • Make a well in the centre and pour in the oil and water/milk. Bring together using a wooden spoon then turn out onto a floured surface. Kneed until a smooth dough is formed then place into a clean bowl and cover to rise. ( At this point prepare the toppings make the sauce )
  • After the dough has risen around 1 hour but its usually sooner roll out to your desired pizza shape and cover firstly with your chosen sauce, then the cheese, & finally your toppings.
  • 4) Bake at 220 C / Gas mark 5 for 20 to 25 minutes.

To have garlic dough bites simply use the pizza dough recipe but roll the dough into little balls. In a microwavable dish add a few knobs of butter and melt. Mix in a few tsp’s of parsley and garlic powder to taste, brush over the dough balls, Sprinkle with salt & Pepper and into a hot oven for 15 mins or until golden.

The same rule applies here for creating a yummy garlic bread pizza simply roll the dough into a pizza shape and use the butter method above the coat the top of the pizza and bake. I usually double up the pizza dough and have a pizza and a garlic bread to share! Feeds a family of 5 pretty well.

Getting Saucy

Not only is it easy but what you don’t use can be stored in a fridge and used as a rocking pasta sauce the next day! how cool is that? Looking for a killer meat free pasta dish, Click here.
